THE AUSTRALIAN TRUCKING ASSOCIATION NATIONAL PRESS CLUB LUNCH
Wednesday 8 July 2009
Since 1963, Prime Ministers, Leaders of the Opposition, dignitaries from overseas and industry leaders have clamoured to speak at the National Press Club and answer questions from the nation’s top journalists.
For the first time ever, it’s the trucking industry’s turn. On Wednesday 8 July, ATA Chief Executive Stuart St Clair will speak at the National Press Club and explain why the trucking industry is so important to Australia.
Stuart will talk about:
- Why the trucking industry will remain indispensable into the future, despite the critics who claim the days of its importance are numbered;'
- how the trucking industry is accepting its responsibility to help deal with climate change;
- how governments and trucking companies can improve safety for truck drivers and other motorists, with insights into what really causes truck crashes; and
- what can be done to fix the road transport laws to make trucking more efficient.
The audience at the National Press Club will include key industry figures, public servants involved in transport issues, government advisers and top political journalists. The speech is expected to be televised nationally on ABC1.
The trucking industry may never have another chance like this to put our case to the media and a national television audience. Many industry groups have never been invited to speak at the National Press Club. Other influential groups are only invited once in a decade; for example, the Australian Bankers’ Association last addressed the National Press Club in 1996.
