Trucks are the pulse of our nation

The road transport industry faces skills shortages. A high proportion of truck drivers and operational managers will retire within a decade; young people are not entering the industry in sufficient numbers to offset attrition rates. We need to address this problem urgently. It is estimated that the national freight task will double by 2020. We cannot allow workforce challenges to compromise the effectiveness of Australia's road transport industry.

Road safety is a shared responsibility

Road safety is the industry's priority concern. The industry acknowledges its responsibility to improve its safety record and the role it can play in helping to improve the driving behaviours of those who share the road with trucks.

A mobile education centre

This important national initiative on behalf of the entire road transport industry will communicate key messages on career opportunities and safety, including strategies to share the road. A travelling interactive exhibition within a state of the art semi trailer will travel throughout the nation, communicating with primary school aged children, school leavers, trucking enterprises, and the industry’s advocates and influencers.

Be involved

The trucking industry's involvement is fundamental to its success. Consider how your company might become involved in the project. We need donations, companies to provide drivers, ideas for the touring itinerary and items and suggestions for exhibits that will showcase the industry.
