CONVENTION SPONSORS TAKE A BOW

the ATA’s Foundation Sponsors, BP Australia, NTI and Volvo Trucks were crucial to the success of this year’s convention. Their continued support highlights their commitment to the Australian trucking industry.

Paccar Australia, the manufacturer of Kenworth trucks, and the Kenworth Dealer Industry Group also confirmed their ongoing financial support for the ATA during the convention, when they presented ATA Chairman Trevor Martyn with a cheque for $75,000.

2009 NATIONAL TRUCKING INDUSTRY AWARD WINNERS ANNOUNCED

Australia’s top truck driver and leading industry figures were awarded for their commitment to the trucking industry at tonight’s National Trucking Industry Awards on the Gold Coast.

The ceremony saw the Australian Trucking Association (ATA) announce the National Professional Driver of the Year, the National Trucking Industry Woman of the Year, the National Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Australian Trucking Industry and the Training Excellence Award. (more…)

TRUCK DRIVERS MUST BE FIT FOR DUTY AFTER THE WEEKEND: NEW STUDY

Australia’s leading truck insurer, NTI, has called for trucking operators to establish that their drivers are fit for duty, particularly after the weekend.

NTI’s Manager of Industry Affairs and Customer Relations, Owen Driscoll, made the call when he briefed the 2009 Australian Trucking Convention on the results of NTI’s new truck accident study. The study examined 325 major truck crashes that occurred in 2007. (more…)

ACCESS ECONOMICS WARNS ‘TOUGH TIMES NOT OVER YET’

Access Economics’ Chris Richardson has warned the tough economic climate is not over yet and has urged Australian businesses to brace for the worst economic climate since the 1930s.

Speaking at the 2009 Australian Trucking Convention, Mr Richardson said news that an upcoming Australian recession would be smaller than most other nations was little comfort. (more…)
