Queensland operators urged to get involved in TruckWeek 2010

The Queensland Trucking Association Ltd (QTA) has invited its members and all trucking operators across Queensland to mark 21-27 February in their diaries and get behind the first ever TruckWeek.

TruckWeek 2010 is a national event and will take place from 21-27 February. The event is being held to bring together all trucking organisations and companies to promote truck safety, the importance of the industry and its staff to the Queensland and National economies, and the great career opportunities available in the trucking industry.

Local trucking operators in urban and regional centres throughout Queensland are inviting the public to get a better understanding of the trucking industry, as they take part in TruckWeek 2010.

“Over 75 per cent of Australia’s freight task is carried by trucks and that percentage is expected to grow in the next 20 years,” said Peter Garske, Chief Executive Officer, Queensland Trucking Association Ltd.

“Trucks are an essential part of the Australian way of life and will remain so into the future.”

“Through TruckWeek 2010 the trucking industry hopes to show the community that we are both professional and focussed on safety.”

“Truck drivers have the same wish as every road user – to share the road safely and participate in their family and community environment.”

The Queensland Trucking Association CEO, Peter Garske has acknowledged the willingness of the Queensland Transport Minister, Hon Rachel Nolan MP and the Shadow Minister Fiona Simpson to participate in TruckWeek 2010 by publicly supporting the trucking industry, our willingness to constantly improve on road safety outcomes, our environmental responsiveness, our economic importance and the great contribution made by operators and drivers throughout the state.

In the lead up to TruckWeek 2010 QTA Ltd CEO, Peter Garske has met with the Director General of Department of Transport and Main Roads, Dave Stewart, briefed the Department’s Heavy Vehicle Safety Forum and made a presentation to Queensland’s Workplace Health & Safety Board.

“The Department’s Deputy Director General, Jack Noye and the Director of the Department’s Industry Capability Unit will attend an event being hosted by Simon National Carriers, Carole Park at 11am on Friday 26th February. A range of community representatives have been invited” said Peter Garske.

“An excellent example of a regional event is that being held in Warwick at 3pm on Thursday 25th February being co-hosted by Warwick Freighters and Wickham’s Transport. A range of local community identities and transport operators will be present. The event will have a particular emphasis on engaging secondary school communities including having local Principals experience a heavy vehicle truck ride” commented Peter Garske.
