The Australian Trucking Association (ATA) is inviting truck operators from across Australia to mark 21-27 February in their diaries and get behind the first ever TruckWeek.
TruckWeek is being held to bring together the ATA, its member organisations and companies to promote truck safety, the importance of the industry and its staff, and the great careers trucking now offers.
The Chairman of the ATA, Trevor Martyn, said the week is a great opportunity for everyone involved in trucking to get together and work as one to promote the industry.
“The ATA and our member organisations will use the week to talk as a group to politicians in Canberra about key issues like road safety,” Mr Martyn said.
“In addition, the ATA is encouraging every trucking operator to put in some time to conduct a TruckWeek 2010 event for their staff or the local community.
“As possible ideas, why not:
- attend a TruckWeek event run by your ATA member organisation, or take the time to join one if you’re not a member. They provide great member services as well as representing their members’ interests;
- invite a speaker to come in and talk about the health issues that particularly affect our workforce like heart disease, diabetes or sleep problems;
- invite members of your local service club (such as PROBUS, Rotary, Lions or Apex) to visit your depot and hear about the trucking industry’s vital role;
- invite your local councillor or state politician to take a ride in a truck to give them a driver’s eye view of the importance of road funding and safety.
Trucking companies who are members of ATA member organisations will be able to post their event details on the TruckWeek 2010 website to raise their profile and highlight their support for the industry.
“Starting in January, the website will feature news updates, great ideas about possible events, resource information, and an online form to register events,” Mr Martyn said.
