New South Wales’ peak trucking industry body, ATA NSW, is inviting politicians from across the state to hop into a truck as part of TruckWeek 2010.
ATA NSW Manager, Jill Lewis, said she hopes politicians will take up the offer to find out more about the industry.
“The trucking industry is a vital part of the New South Wales economy. Trucks deliver 75 per cent of all freight across the state, including every item in every supermarket,” Ms Lewis said.
“TruckWeek is a great opportunity for members of parliament and mayors to get a better understanding of the essential role of trucks in the economy, as well as the issues the industry faces both across the state and in their local area.
“With truck safety recently in the news ATA NSW believes that TruckWeek 2010 will give the state’s key decision makers the opportunity to get a better understanding of what it is actually like to drive a truck and how they behave differently to cars.”
Ms Lewis also urged all NSW trucking operators to get involved in TruckWeek 2010.
“TruckWeek is the perfect opportunity for trucking operators to do their part in promoting the industry in their local community,” Ms Lewis said.
“By holding an event in their town or suburb, trucking operators can introduce the community to the trucking industry and encourage all motorists to share the road safely with trucks.”
