2009 NATIONAL TRUCKING INDUSTRY AWARD WINNERS ANNOUNCED

Australia’s top truck driver and leading industry figures were awarded for their commitment to the trucking industry at tonight’s National Trucking Industry Awards on the Gold Coast.

The ceremony saw the Australian Trucking Association (ATA) announce the National Professional Driver of the Year, the National Trucking Industry Woman of the Year, the National Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Australian Trucking Industry and the Training Excellence Award.

The 2009 National Trucking Industry Award Winners are:

National Professional Driver of the Year:
Robert Machin, Hawkins Road Transport, Townsville QLD

National Trucking Industry Woman of the Year:
Carol Single, Single Transport Services, Mackay QLD

Outstanding Contribution to the Australian Trucking Industry:
Newcastle and Hunter Region Road Transport Awareness Group, Newcastle NSW

Training Excellence Award:
NQX Freight System, Archerfield QLD

Also awarded on the night was the Don Watson Memorial Award, which was presented to Ross McDonald, retired from Cummins South Pacific.

The Chairman of the ATA, Trevor Martyn, said the quality of this year’s winners is impressive and include some of the most dedicated and committed people in the industry.

“Listening to the winners speak on the night provides a strong indication of why they won - they all have tremendous passion for our industry and an uncompromising commitment to its improvement,” he said.

Mr Martyn also thanked award sponsors Cummins South Pacific, DECA Training, Trader Business Media and ATA Foundation Sponsors BP, NTI and Volvo, for offering a range of exciting prizes for the winner of each category.
