Exhibitor Story: Michelin Energy Tyres on Show

With fuel being the largest contributor to overall long haul operating costs, Michelin’s Energy range is designed to reduce fuel consumption between 5% and 10% - enough to pay for themselves in as little as 18 months of long-haul trucking!

At the 2009 Australian Trucking Convention, Michelin will be showcasing their award winning Energy Range of fuel efficient truck tyres. Energy tyres are the latest result of Michelin’s century-long effort to reduce rolling resistance - defined as energy lost via tyre deformation and heating due to road contact. Since its European launch in 1992, winning Michelin the Auto Trade Environmental Award, the Energy range has gained worldwide acceptance and has reduced rolling resistance by 25%.  Reduced rolling resistance = a lower fuel bill = lower Cost-of-Ownership, reinforcing that Michelin is indeed “A Better Way Forward”.

As tyres account for around 30% of vehicle energy consumption, Michelin considers rolling resistance a pivotal area of research. Apart from increasing the profits of transport firms and owner-drivers across the globe, the Energy tyres have also reduced the emission of millions of tonnes of greenhouse gases. Due to the positive impact on the environment as well as the cost-of-ownership benefits, leading truck manufacturers have been swift to endorse the Energy range and now include it as part of the original equipment offer.

Today Michelin believes it can reduce rolling resistance by a further 25% over the next decade, thereby providing transport operators continued fuel savings and delivering on Michelin’s promise of ‘A Better Way Forward’.

According to Paul Johnston, Commercial Director – Truck, Michelin Australia, ‘The benefits of our Energy tyres to industry and to the environment are enormous, which is why anyone interested in either of these areas should visit us at the show. In a time of increased concern regarding climate change, we at Michelin are extremely proud to have produced a genuine good news story. Energy tyres feature the same high levels of grip and build quality that people have come to expect from Michelin, so making the change can only benefit them and the planet.’

The 2009 Australian Trucking Convention runs from 21 – 24 April at the Gold Coast Convention Centre. Michelin will be at booth 25.
